Jamaica Could Be Producing Oil in a Few Years Says Energy Minister

Jamaica could very well be producing oil within a few years according to Energy Minister, Dr. Andrew Wheatley.

Last year, Tullow, a leader in independent gas and oil exploration and production, was granted permission to conduct an offshore two-dimensional seismic survey to determine Jamaica’s potential for commercial oil and gas.

Dr. Wheatly has now revealed that preliminary seismic studies have yielded very positive results.

He also revealed that two-dimensional seismic studies are currently being undertaken, after which, a more detailed three dimensional study will be conducted, followed by the construction of an exploration well.

And positive results from that well would lead to the construction of several wells, which could see Jamaica producing oil in another three to five years if all goes well according to the energy minister.

Tullow Oil has reportedly already invested USD$30 million on the exploratory project.
