Jamaicans Opting Not to Adjust Immigration Status in the US

Jamaicans currently residing the United States without proper documentation are seemingly reluctant to get their status regularised.

A recent report by RJR, shared the suspicion of US-based Attorney-at-Law Wayne Golding who theorizes that many such persons are gripped with fear, resulting in them shying away from the institutions which could offer assistance.

This widespread fear follows an order signed last month by President Trump which placed harsh restrictions on some nationalities entering the US, while drawing additional scrutiny for others.

Trump’s controversial executive order temporarily barred entry to the US for nationals from the predominantly Muslims nations of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

In addition to being fearful, Mr Golding listed affordability and a wait and see attitude as some possible reasons why undocumented Jamaicans are hesitant to take the necessary steps to change their immigration status.
