Jamaica to Host Largest Ever Conference in Region Later This Year

On Friday (February 17), Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett revealed that later this year, the island will be hosting the United Nations World Tourism Conference (UNWTO).

Mr Bartlett also stated that it will be the largest ever conference in Jamaica and the region.

According to the tourism minister, heads of the two largest cruise companies – Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Carnival Cruise Line – have already expressed a desire to participate, which will serve to bolster the international reach of the conference.

“The cruise sector has never really been a part of the UNWTO, which makes their participation an even bigger deal. These are the two biggest cruise lines, and their influence across the world is legendary, so that the spotlight will be on Jamaica,” the Minister said.

Mr Bartlett made the disclosure while addressing the UNWTO planning committee at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in Rose Hall, St James.

The conference is to be held from November 27 to 29, at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, in St James
