Veteran Journalist Peter Abrahams Dies at 97

Veteran journalist and highly acclaimed author Peter Abrahams is dead.

He reportedly died at his home in St Andrew on Wednesday morning (January 18).

Abrahams, who was from South Africa, settled in Jamaica in the 1950’s after living in Europe for over a decade.

He worked with several media entities in Jamaica, including Public Opinion newspaper, The Daily News, Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) and Radio Jamaica.

  

At Radio Jamaica, he served at one time as Chairman of the Board, and for many years as a respected commentator on public affairs.

Gary Allen, CEO of the RJR Group and close friend of Mr. Abrahams, remembered him as a man committed to Jamaica, who gave back not only through his incisive commentary, but also through his general willingness motivate others.

His cause of death has not yet been ascertained.
