Andre Russell Gets One Year Cricket Ban

Jamaican cricketer and and West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell earlier today (January 31) received  a one year ban from cricket after being found guilty by an independent anti-doping panel.

The ban takes effect from January 31, 2017  until January 30, 2018.

Russell reportedly held his head down on a desk as the verdict was being delivered at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.

A three-member tribunal comprising Hugh Faulkner, Dr Marjorie Vassell and Dixieth Palmer, a former Jamaica cricketer, found Russell guilty of being negligent in filing his whereabouts on three separate occasions within a 12-month period in 2015.

According to the WADA code, if an athlete misses three tests in a 12-month period, it amounts to a failed dope test.

Patrick Foster, Russell’s lawyer is not pleased with the verdict.

“Naturally I am disappointed, but I am somewhat grateful it’s not for two years. They seem to have injected some mercy into the process even though I did not agree with the decision,” said Foster shortly after the verdict was handed down.
