Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls Secure Away Series Win Against England

Victory for the Sunshine Girls!

Jamaica’s national senior netballers should be back on the island soon after their electrifying 2-1 win over England in the Vitality International Series on Sunday night.

The Sunshine girls fought valiantly to secure the win despite having a not so brilliant start.

Jamaica trailed 15-14 after the first quarter however the team rebounded to take a 29-23 lead at half time.

At the end of the third quarter, the score was tied at 46 -46 in large part to England’s resilient goalkeeper Eboni Beckford-Chambers who kept Jamaica at bay and allowed her side to claw their way back into the game.

The last 15 minutes of the match saw Jo Harten equalising for the Sunshine Girls after Jamaica took advantage of a turnover conceded by Serena Guthrie.

Shamera Sterling re-established the away side’s lead with two goals before Jamaica effectively sealed off their own net to keep England at bay until the final whistle.

Jamaica’s goal attack Shanice Beckford was named Player of the Match while her team-mate Jhaniele Fowler-Reid was their Player of the Series.
