Jamaican prodigy Leon Bailey who currently plies his trade as a winger in the Belgian Pro League with KRC Genk has made it explicitly clear that he has no intention to play for the Reggae Boyz.

An interview published recently on espnfc.com, quotes the immensely talented 19-year-old as saying:

“There is a lot of pressure from Jamaica, but I don’t see a future there.”

He is also quoted as saying:

“I want to play in big tournaments against top players, and with all due respect I don’t see that happening in Jamaica any time soon.”

Bailey is currently being sought by some of the most successful teams in Europe.

He has scored 7 goals in 12 matches on the European stage for Genk so far this term.

Opting to play for Jamaica could potentially limit the youngster’s career opportunities as new England Football Association rules state that non-European Union players must represent a country that averages in FIFA’s top 50 rankings over the previous two years.

Jamaica is currently ranked 77th.
