One Jamaican young lady, Nashelle Hird, was the recent recipient of the Global Leadership Award from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT).

The Global Leadership Award is one of the university’s most prestigious entrance scholarships.

According to UOIT, the university’s entrance scholarship program recognizes first-year students for exceptional achievement in academics, leadership and community involvement throughout their secondary school career.

The Global Leadership Award is valued at $72,000 or $18,000 per year for four years.

After receiving the award, Hird stated : ” Saying that receiving the Global Leadership Award means the world to me is an understatement”.

“I feel honoured to have been selected from the many international students who applied,” she also added.

Hird is from Annotto Bay and recently graduated from the Immaculate Conception High School (I.C.H.S.) for Girls in Kingston.
