Motorists to Pay Higher Tolls On North-South Highway

It has been less than six months since the formal opening of the North-South Link of Highway 2000.

The link stretches from Mammee Bay, St Ann to Caymanas in St Catherine.

The highway was opened despite widespread protests over the proposed toll rates which many persons viewed as exorbitant.

The rates were eventually reduced by 25 percent.

However, North-South Highway Company, operators of the highway, has now applied for the current rates to be increased.

The newly proposed rates are as follows:

Class One vehicles traveling from Caymanas to Ocho Rios is now $1,360. The previous proposed rate for a Class One vehicle was $1,220. Class One vehicle users are currently paying $915 due to the discount.

For Class Two vehicles, the new proposed rate is $2,730 and $4,090 for a Class Three vehicle. The Toll operators had previously asked for $2,450 for a Class Two vehicle and $3,700 dollars for a Class Three vehicle.
The new rates become effective on September 3.
