Jamaican Man Dies in Georgia After Dump Truck Plunges into River

A Jamaican man lost his life in the US state of Georgia on Sunday night when the truck he was driving ran off the road into the Yellow River.

Newton County police stated that two dump tracks were travelling East along the I-20 Access Road, when one truck rear-ended the other.

The contact between the trucks resulted in both vehicles losing control on the bridge that stretches across a portion of the river.

The truck that was rear-ended was being driven by Valentine Gayle, a 48-year-old Jamaican man with over 20 years experience driving trucks.

It plunged into the river following the impact. The other driver sustained non life threatening injuries.

Steven Redish, a man who lives close to where the accident occurred recalled the horrifying incident while speaking with CBS46.

“He was in my arms and I could feel the last little twitch in his body,” stated Redish who was among at least five men who courageously jumped in the water to try and rescue the Jamaican man.

The two truck drivers were reportedly friends.
