World’s Fastest Man in Action Tonight As Olympic Trials Commence

Athletes seeking to represent Jamaica at the upcoming Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil will begin competing for places on the national team at Independence Park in Kingston today (June 30).

They will compete at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA)/Supreme Ventures Limited National Senior Championships, over a four day period.

The championships will also be used to select Jamaica’s track and field team to the NACAC Under-23 Championships in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico from July 15-17.

The preliminary round of the men’s 100 metres will commence the action, beginning at 10:00 am.

This round will be comprised of six heats from which the top seven athletes by times will progress to the quarter-final round, which is scheduled to commence at 7:00 pm.

The world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, along with his Racers’ club mate Yohan Blake and former world record holder Asafa Powell will all be featured on the opening day.

They will grace the track in the quarter-final round and will undoubtedly be eager to ‘blaze through’ the following rounds to earn their places at Rio in the men’s 100 metres.

The semi-finals are scheduled to start at 7:12 pm on Friday while the final is set for 9:15 pm – the last event on Day 2.

Bolt, who registered an impressive 9.88 seconds clocking over 100m at the inaugural Racers Grand Prix in Kingston earlier this month aims to defend his 100, 200 and 4×100-metre titles in Rio.

The Rio Olympic Games 2016 begins on Friday, August 5 and ends on Sunday, August 21.
