Trini Talkshow Host Refers to Jamaicans as ‘Nuisances, Criminals and Pests’

Trinidadian talk show host during Barrington “Skippy” Thomas has most certainly angered many Jamaicans following controversial comments he recently made on his call-in radio programme on Trinidad’s Power 102 FM.

While speaking with a Jamaican caller, he made some rather unsavoury remarks about Jamaicans.

The caller who resides in Trinidad had called to complain about the treatment Jamaicans are receiving there saying they are being unfairly blamed for crime in the twin island republic, when the host of the programme -Barrington “Skippy” Thomas promptly interjected saying:

“I expect the immigration officers at Piarco [an international airport in Trinidad] and elsewhere to be even more stringent with how much of these nuisances and pests and ‘threateners’ and criminal elements they allow to come on our shores. They have a strong influence on the crime in the community.”

In recent years there have been numerous complaints of inhumane and unfair treatment being meted out towards Jamaicans in Trinidad.

After arriving at the Piarco International Airport in Trinidad last month, 12 Jamaicans were prevented from entering the country.

The somewhat vague reason given for their denial of entry by the Trinidad and Tobago Government was that: they  were “deemed likely to become charges on public funds”.

There have been several calls for Jamaicans to boycott Trinidadian goods and services in recent times because of the ways Jamaicans are treated there.
