Misinformed Media Sentinel

Kindly allow me to respond to the coward hiding under the moniker “Media Watcher” who penned the letter in Tuesday’s edition of The Gleaner, titled “Sandrea Falconer Deserved Hatchet Job.” I am still trying to fathom how a critique of this Information Minister, Senator Ruel Reid can result in a dishonest attack on his predecessor.

The “Media Watcher” is obviously not watching enough media or he would have seen the apology from no less a person than the President of the PAJ, Dionne Jackson Miller or hear the apology on Power 106 after it was proven that the ” fracas ” between Dara Smith and the then Information Minister was manufactured. Dionne Jackson Miller did the right thing. She got the facts and issued a public apology.

Dionne Jackson Miller stated….

“Yesterday afternoon on my radio programme,  Beyond The Headlines, I played a clip of a press conference at Jamaica House.

“The audio from the clip gave the clear impression that my colleague Dara Smith was reacting with exasperation to Information Minister Sandrea Falconer, and asking her whether she was not supposed to ask questions at a press conference.

“Dara has in fact informed me that her comments were directed at other officials in the room who were reacting to her questions in certain ways.

Sandrea Falconer

“ I therefore without reservation apologize to Dara and Senator Sandrea Falconer, for any embarrassment to them, for playing the clip without that context.”……..

Could this ardent “Media Watcher” remind the public of the abuse that Abka Fitz Henley suffered? I am sure the video recording of the press briefing would show that this too was manufactured. In fact if the “Media Watcher” or the “Veteran Journalist” of which he speaks had checked further; they would have learnt that the large contingent had in fact accompanied then Minister Horace Dalley to the meeting.

The video would also show that then Minister Falconer seemingly uncomfortable with how many persons were in the room, encouraged the journalists not to be bothered by them. Perhaps our “Media Watcher” could help Senator Reid in his preparations for the briefings so that the public is not confused by his many clarifications. One thing we can all say about Sandrea Falconer is that, when she spoke we all understood and we never had to wait for the clarification to the clarification.
