North-South Highway Approaches Completion

According to The Jamaica Information Service (JIS) ,Minister of Transport, Works and Housing Dr Omar Davies, says the North-South Highway is 90 per cent complete and will be opened in phases beginning this month.

The Angels to Linstead segment will open by the end of January, while the sections from Caymanas to Angels and Ocho Rios to Moneague will be opened by the end of February.

Davies was giving an update on the project in the House of Representatives today.

The section of the highway between Treadways and Moneague was opened to the public in August 2014.

Davies informed that the entire highway project will be officially commissioned and handed over, and tolling will commence by the end of March.

He noted that as part of the arrangements with China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), 1, 200 acres of land will be provided to the company for secondary developments once the highway is completed.

He said that 150 acres have been approved for the construction of 3, 200 hotel rooms and 500 housing solutions at Mammee Bay in St Ann.

“Design work on these developments will commence once the official handover of the highway has taken place,” Davies stated.
