Jamaica shares the wealth from reaching Gold Cup final

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have continued their Gold Cup feel-good factor by donating $250,000 to charities.

The Boyz, who last month became the first Caribbean team to reach the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, held a ceremony at the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) headquarters in New Kingston on Thursday.

The Special Olympics Jamaica (SOJ), the Manning Boys Home in St. Elizabeth and Glenhope Nursery in the Kingston community of Maxfield Park all benefitted from the latest windfall for the Boyz.

The SOJ received $100,000 to fund its football programme, the Manning Boys Home also got $100,000 with the Glenhope Nursery supported with $50,000.

Lorna Bell, the SOJ executive director, said: “We started seven years ago and JFF president Captain Horace Burrell and his team have really and truly supported us all these years. The gears used at the World Games were donated by JFF.”

Roy Simpson, the team manager of the revitalised Reggae Boyz who have climbed to world no55 in the latest FIFA rankings, explained: “We continue to support respective charities. We started a couple of years ago in the last World Cup Qualifiers, where we donated to the Glenhope Nursery.”
