Poems

Inspired

I’ve been inspired by the howl of the wind outside my window
The colour of the night out there, dark blue, black or indigo
The tick of my clock on the wall overhead
The strange dream that I had that woke me outta bed

I have been inspired by the bark of a dog outside
Which another dog started and he just replied

poemsI’ve been inspired by stories I’ve been told
Of a misunderstanding that went out of control

I have been inspired by having nothing to write about
When ideas dried up, a writer’s drought

I have been inspired by a current trend
The sadness I’ve felt for the death of a friend

I have been inspired when I was hurt
Was it something you said that made me feel like dirt?

I’ve been inspired and I’ve felt good
About something you did, or was it something you should?

I have been inspired by a passing car
The sound of the engine until it got far

I have been inspired by my mistakes
It made me look silly, but it shook me awake

I’ve been inspired by an empty page
Taunting me to write like the backdrop on a stage

I’ve been inspired by a touch, by your skin
By your gentle flowing curves, deep breath I take in

I’ve been inspired by a beautiful face
Was it the eyes, lips or nose or the alluring gaze?

I’ve been inspired and I like to create
Either drawing or writing at any rate

I’ve been inspired it seem there’s no end
To what can inspire, it goes on, it extends
