York Castle High School student dies in St. Ann crash

A 13 year old student from a prominent High School in St. Ann lost her life in a motor vehicle accident yesterday.

According to a report by the Observer, the York Castle High School fraternity is in mourning after student Derecca Campbell of Duanvale, Trelawny died Thursday evening (September 18)  as a result of injuries she sustained in a motor vehicle crash along the Retreat main road in St Ann.

It is reported that the student was among other passengers in a mini bus travelling from Brown’s Town towards Trelawny about 5:15 pm, when the vehicle collided with a motor truck travelling in the opposite direction.

Campbell, four other students, and an adult sustained injuries and were taken to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital where she died while being treated.

  

The others remain in hospital.

The drivers of both vehicles were warned by the police for prosecution.

The crash was the second in the parish in two days. On Thursday a Hiace mini bus transporting tourists to the Falmouth Pier collided with a Toyota Altis motorcar along the Dunn’s River main road in Ocho Rios. Two persons travelling in the car have been hospitalized.
