Crunch Time for the Reggae Boyz Ahead Of WCQ

Jamaica’s  national  senior  footballers are now in the Bahamas ahead of a 12-day training camp and two friendly games before returning home on June 2, ahead  of  three  crucial  World Cup qualifiers in the  CONCACAF Hexagonal.

The team’s first order of business will be Thursday’s friendly against English Premiership side Tottenham Hotspurs which is expected to see the German born first timer Daniel Gordon making his debut as a Reggae Boy.

Gordon is among five overseas based players in the 15 man squad for that match which is set to kick-off at 7:pm Jamaica time.

Also in the five are former national youth goalkeeper and University of Connecticut glove-man Andre Blake MLS player Darren Mattocks.

  

Jermaine Johnson  was  schedule  to  travel  with  the  rest  of  the  local  players today  but  is  now  down  to  arrive  on  Thursday  because  of  visa  problems.

The other players  who  travelled  from  Jamaica  today  are Rudolf Austin, Alvas Powell, Xavian Virgo, Jermaine Hue, Richard McCallum, O’Brian Woodbine, Damian Williams, Montrose Phinn, Jermie Lynch, Evan Taylor and Keammar daley.

The rest of the Jamaican World Cup squad following the game against Tottenham will head for the Bahamas for a training camp. The players who will join up with the rest of the contingent  includeJobi McAnuff, Adrian Mariappa, Gareth MCleary, Donovan Ricketts, Ryan Johnson, Dwayne Miller, Theo Robinson, Marvin Elliott, Dane Richards, Demar Phillips and Jermaine Beckford.

All the players are expected in camp by May 30, one day ahead of a friendly international against host Bahamas.

The Tottenham team who secured a 5th place finish in the English Premier league also arrived in the Bahamas today for Thursday’s encounter against Jamaica.

The team includes highly rated winger Gareth Bale.
